Yazaki Has Students Thinking Automotive
June 13, 2014

This week the Yazaki interns and co-ops were challenged to think about what makes them passionate about the automotive industry. Recently, there have been many debates about how relevant the automotive industry is to the current generation. We asked these students to share their experience at Yazaki and why they chose it for their internship on social media.

Below are some examples of the types of imagery that was shared this week:

“Found this neat license plate. Yazaki and automobiles just go together.”

- Whitney McClinton, COMBU EV Engineering Co-op

“Are electric vehicles the future?”

- Lauren Smith, Marketing Intern

This post from Lauren struck a conversation on the Yazaki North America Facebook page between two employees regarding the fuel efficiency and the switch from gas to electric.

“TRW had an EXPO at Yazaki today! That brother-sister supplier connection.”

- Lauren Letherwood, COMBU EV Engineering Intern

“You think all these vehicles are magically built? You need test after test.”

- Jamil Alaouie, Application Engineering Intern

“Taking the company electric vehicle for a test drive!”

- Whitney McClinton, COMBU EV Engineering Co-op

Lauren Letherwood, COMBU EV Engineering Co-op, on her experience driving a Chevy Volt, “I thought the car was pretty awesome! We took it to the charging station and got to test out some of its cool features—digital readings for how fast you drive, how much charge you have, and more. The best part about the car is the fact that it’s hybrid—no charge, no problem. You could always stop for gas. Our manager gave us the keys and told us to have fun. It was an awesome experience.”

The students have also showcased their passion for automotive thoughts through Twitter.

“It's an awesome feeling knowing that the auto parts I test help to make safer vehicles for people!”
- Kelsey Mayes, Testing Co-op

“Yazaki is a global leader in wire harness production and supplies parts to every major auto maker on the planet!”
- Tom Balewski, Chrysler Engineering Co-Op

“It's so cool that the tests I run will change the design of connectors that will go into cars everywhere.”
- Lauren Letherwood, COMBU EV Engineering Intern

“I didn’t realize Yazaki recruited at so many different universities.”
- Lauren Letherwood, COMBU EV Engineering Intern

“I told my coworker I was interested in how diesel vehicles work and within 30 minutes he told me I was testing one tomorrow.”
- Feras Al-Hourani, Ford HEV Engineering Intern

“You would be amazed at the years of engineering that go into all of today's vehicles.”
- Tom Balewski, Chrysler Engineering Co-Op

“Cars are so complex and have so many parts. It’s crazy how we can build so many so fast.”
- Feras Al-Hourani, Ford HEV Engineering Intern

The activities the students participated in this week have encouraged them to think about ways in which the automotive industry is interesting and exciting. They chose to work at Yazaki as opposed to other companies such as Google, and Apple. This summer we hope that our interns take back the knowledge they have gained here to their school and share with their classmates. The automotive industry is an innovative industry and we hope that they enjoy their time here.

We are so proud of all of their accomplishments and their love for the automotive industry. Next week they will focus on Corporate Life!

We encourage all employees to follow the interns campaigns through our Facebook (Yazaki North America), Twitter (@YazakiNA) or on Instagram (@YazakiNA).
