May 23, 2019

Yazaki receives a silver award for commitment to excellence, diversity and service

CANTON, Mich.  May 23, 2019 – Yazaki North America is a proud recipient of the 2019 Silver Diversity Supplier Award from General Motors (GM). Yazaki team members accepted the award on behalf of the company at the Michigan Minority Procurement Conference Thursday at Cobo Center in Detroit.

“We are honored to have been recognized by GM for this award for a third time,” said John Pelletier, Senior Buyer – Indirect Purchasing and Diversity Manager at Yazaki. “This distinction reflects our commitment to promoting diversity and equity within our supply chain network. We are proud to have a robust diversity procurement program and look forward to continuing to grow in this space.”

GM’s Supplier Diversity Award was created to recognize the top automotive suppliers that support certified minority, women, LGBTQ and veteran-owned businesses through purchasing. GM was the first automotive original equipment manufacturer to establish a formal supplier diversity program in 1968 and continues to work to raise the bar for both domestic and international suppliers. GM currently works with more than 400 certified diverse suppliers and small businesses across the U.S. and Canada.

Like GM, Yazaki is also committed to developing and maintaining strong partnerships with minority-owned companies. These partnerships not only directly speak to and strengthen the company’s core values, but also reflect the diverse world in which we live.

Since 2017, Yazaki has purchased more than $211 million in parts and services from minority-owned businesses in North America.
