Canton, Mich., June 9, 2017 – Yazaki opens a new facility in Arizona to meet demand and growth as west coast automakers and automotive start-ups continue to grow.
The facility, located southeast of Phoenix in Chandler, serves Yazaki’s customers stationed on the west coast and currently houses commercial operations including account and program management, sales and pricing, and production control specific to those customers.
Yazaki, which has its North American headquarters in Canton, Michigan—a Detroit suburb—invested in Chandler for its central location to its customers scattered through the western side of the United States as well as Yazaki operations in El Paso, Texas and a research and development center in Camarillo, California.
“As business continues to increase on the West Coast it became increasingly important to open an office close by to manage those customers,” said David Conrad, Head of West Coast Business Development and the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Business Unit. “For us, Chandler is centrally located between our customers in California or to our operations in El Paso. The time zone, compared to Michigan, also makes it more convenient for doing business with those based in the western side of the country.”
Additionally, the suburbs of Phoenix have become a hot spot for automotive development.
“The Phoenix region is quickly becoming the center of self-driving vehicles and technology,” said Robert Kunihiro, Chief Financial Officer, Yazaki North America, Inc. “With General Motors, Toyota, Waymo, Uber, and several automotive start-ups moving into the area, it only makes sense for Yazaki to also establish a presence.”
The Chandler office employs account and program managers as well as sales and engineering staff. Yazaki plans to significantly grow its presence with expansion of its Chandler operations—adding wire harness engineering for the company’s west coast customers later this year.
